Artist's Description

Found this pretty spider in the woods near my house. She'd just finished repairing her web. She's approximately 1.5" across. This is a nice example of a Black and Yellow Argiope or Black and Yellow Garden Spiders. They are a type of orb spider meaning their web is orb shaped. Black and Yellow Garden Spiders are harmless to humans. Because they are large, many people fear them; however, not only are they harmless, but they do a lot of good. These spiders eat large amounts of insect pests, such as flies, mosquitoes, and aphids. Taken August 2007.
