This statue is in Kalakaua park named after King David Kalakaua in the quiet town of Hilo on the Big Island, Hawai'i. King David Kalakaua was nicknamed "The Merrie Monarch" for his passion for music, dancing, parties, and the finest food and drinks. Unfortunately he was King during a very turbulent time for Hawaii. During his time power was stolen from the Hawaiian Monarchy. The history of his reign is a very interesting read.
